About the 2024 Arctic Cat Blast XR 4000

The 2024 Arctic Cat Blast XR 4000 is a mid-sized crossover snowmobile designed to bridge the gap between youth sleds and full-sized performance machines. It features a unique 397cc single-cylinder 2-stroke engine that provides a high power-to-weight ratio for both trail riding and light backcountry exploration. For 2024, the XR continues to offer a versatile 146-inch track length, making it more stable and capable in deep snow than the trail-oriented ZR models.
What Makes This Trim Special
  • XR (Standard) — Equipped with a 1.6-inch lug Cobra track for better off-trail flotation and a 4-inch race-height windshield.
  • XR Touring — Adds 2-up seating, a 15.5-inch high windshield, a 1.25-inch lug Ripsaw track, and a wider 39.5-40.5 inch adjustable ski stance. (Blast LT (partially))
  • Overload Springs — Exclusive to the Touring trim to support the weight of a second passenger.

Known Issues 3

Top reported problems from owners and mechanics

High
Drive Clutch Recall (Early Models) Some 2021-2022 models had issues with primary clutch fragments escaping the guard.
Medium
Engine Overheating in Low Snow The long 146-inch tunnel requires consistent snow spray to the heat exchangers; hard-pack conditions can cause rapid temp spikes.
Low
Trail Darting The lightweight front end and single-runner carbides cause the sled to follow existing ruts in the snow.

Frequently Asked Questions About the 2024 Arctic Cat Blast XR 4000

Yes, it features a push-button electronic engine reverse that rotates the engine backward to move the sled.

Yes, it uses a modern Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) system for easy starting and consistent performance at different altitudes.

Owners typically report top speeds between 55 and 65 mph depending on snow conditions and rider weight.

Yes, while marketed as mid-sized, the ergonomics and 65 HP engine are sufficient for adults up to 200+ lbs, though it is physically smaller than a full-sized ZR 6000.

It requires Arctic Cat C-TEC2 Synthetic 2-Cycle Oil for its electronic injection system.

The most effective fix is replacing the stock single-runner carbides with dual-runner carbides (like Woody's Slim Jims or Arctic Cat's dual offset runners).

The 146-inch track with 1.6-inch lugs provides good flotation for a mid-sized sled, making it capable in meadows and light powder, though it is not a dedicated mountain machine.

It uses NGK BPR9ES spark plugs.
